"Håller" is to hold or to keep... I'm not sure if håller för is an idiomatic expression or not.

So... he held/kept for his eyes what he held/kept for himself? That doesn't make much sense. *googles* Hmm... No help at all. Sorry.

I suspect it is idiomatic. Thanks for trying though!

It's 4.31 here. I guess it has been a longer day than I had anticipated too... damn studying!

the first line means "she's covering her eyes"
the second line means "what she keeps to herself"

are these two sentences supposed to be connected?? it doesn't sound like it, unless of course it's poetry...

No, they aren't:) The first was the one that initially confused me and I found another example to see if I could make sense of it and that confused me too. That has helped me immensely! Tack så mycket!

OK, that makes sense. Yeah, "att hålla" can be used both as "to hold" and "to keep" and in the first example it means that she is holding her hands in front of her eyes, i.e. covering them. It's not really idiomatic although it may sound that way. Glad I could be of help.
